This was a small project where I was asked by the client to spruce up the space with as little as possible. The new seating area needed to be light and airy, casual, modern, and comfortable. It also needed to seat a big number of people. We refurbished a couple of the existing chairs and a side table as requested by the client.

Guest Bedroom Turned Kids Playroom, A Project By Me
Hi everyone
I've just completed turning this dark guest bedroom into a kids playroom for a very lovely family and I'd love to share it with you.
The clients wanted me to use some items that were already available in their home;
Toys storage units that we later added one to, a fold out sofa, IKEA's toy kitchen, and the IKEA black board. I also had to keep in mind all the storage and play areas needed for all the toys and artworks the kids were making. The room had to be playful, fun, colourful, and inviting for kids to play in, do various activities, watch TV, and paint so without further due I will leave you with some before and after shots and some various other shots from the room. Enjoy the transformation and let me know what you think in the comments below!

Baby nursery turned toddler's room
It's been quiet some time since I last posted here due to life being so crazy full with work, home, and a toddler to run after.
I've posted before about the design of my baby's , Farida, nursery which was featured on Apartment Therapy in multiple posts you can take a look at them here; Nursery, Take 2 Wall Decal, Nursery Tour, and Featured on Apartment Therapy
But what do you do when this teeny tiny little bundle of sweet joy
The beautiful thing about this kitchen that I need to add is the fact that it could be set to have 3 different heights depending on your child's height. If you do not add the plastic caps to the feet of the kitchen then it's at it's shortest. Then if you add the caps in a certain direction its a little higher, and if you flip the cap over and insert it the height is at it's highest. This is the middle height shown in the photo of Farida's kitchen
Farida gets a lot of structured play at nursery so I wanted to make sure her room was setup to help her have free play and role play as much as she'd like.

Turns into this cheeky run around 2 year old toddler
The transformation in just two years is crazy, right?! where did the years go!
So what happens when your child grow? optimally their nursery/room should be designed to grow with them, which is what I had in mind when I first designed Farida's nursery.
Her cot bed is from Mamas & Papas and it's designed to be used from birth until 3 years old. It has 3 different mattress levels for while your baby grow and then it completely transforms into a toddler's bed once your toddler can climb out of bed, which is why I had to transform it one day as I woke up to Farida walking into my room at 5am! I moved the foot stool poof and the sheepskin to her bed side so that I can read her a story while sitting on the poof and so that she has something soft to step on when she get out of bed.

We made a big deal of how grown Farida is and that she got her own new big girl bed so that she wouldn't be scared of sleeping in it. Unfortunately the only problem now is that whenever Farida switches sleep cycles and finds herself awake she gets out of bed and wanders into my room...multiple times a night sometimes which is very exhausting...trying to find a solution for her waking up a lot and requesting milk to go back to bed. She has been a great sleeper since before she was 1 and even now when I put her down in bed at 8, I tuck her in with a bottle of milk and read her two sleep story books with the lights off and I simply kiss her goodnight and walk out of the room and she sleeps on her own- it sometimes takes her walking out of the room a few times requesting "more milk, potty, just walking out" and me getting her what she wants and then tucking her back in bed and then she is down for the night before she starts waking up.
I heard of a toddler's "ok to wake" clock but I don't know if it is worth a try, if you did try it I'd appreciate the insight.
The bookcase that I got for the room from IKEA is being put to great use, it stores her ever growing collection of books and toys.
The new purchases for the room are the following as shown below;
FLISAT kids table & Mammut children's stools where she can color (Farida loves coloring and crafting with all sorts of mediums, needless to say I keep all of her supplies and colors out of sight so that she doesn't color over all of the walls) or play with puzzles. The great thing about this table is that it has two tucked in baskets that you can use to store toys and colors.
Mala Easel which Farida loves to color all over with chalks and then enjoys wiping everything off just as much :) (yeay me!)
The DUKTIG kitchen set with all the trims which Farida absolutely LOVES and enjoys playing with (she loves it even more when I fill the little pots and pans with cocoa puffs and ask her to cook them and she starts transferring them from one pot to the other)
Farida gets a lot of structured play at nursery so I wanted to make sure her room was setup to help her have free play and role play as much as she'd like.

Bedroom & Bathrooms Re-Model
This is a project that I've worked on recently. The client needed to have her daughter's bedroom re-planned to look better without purchasing new bedroom furniture but by adding to what was already there and take out whatever wasn't necessary. She also wanted a new color scheme and a more adult pulled together look over all in the room.
We took out the existing old sofa and bench, desk, desk chair, bedding, carpet, and curtains. The desk wasn't being used and was eating up too much space in the room. We also added a new seating area to watch TV in the room or to sit down and read. The wardrobe being big and black was re-located behind the door so that it isn't hte first thing you see when you enter the room which made the space look bigger and brighter.
We went for a soft subtle blues and neutrals color palette for the room. The sofa, area rug, and coffee table are all from Home Center, Console is from Midas, and the chair is from The One. The curtains were custom designed and made at Mobel Decoration.
The client also wanted to remodel the en-suite bathroom for the above shown bedroom. They requested a more modern look with under sink storage and a bigger more glamorous mirror in the bathroom. The curtain rod was removed and replaced with a partial swing screen from Kafood, mirror replaced with a mirror from Midas, new sink from Nabina, and new shower tab, mixers, and ceiling light from Ansar Gallery.
The client also wanted to remodel the kids bathroom. They requested a more modern look with under sink storage and a shower that would stretch from wall to wall and have pebble stone tiles and be as seemless as possible and partially frosted. The existing shower was removed and replaced with a custom designed and fabricated shower. The mirror, sink, tabs and mixers, ceiling light, and new showerset are from Ansar Gallery.

Blissful Sofitel Old Cataract in Aswan, Egypt
This must be the best hotel I've ever stayed at. We want to go back to Aswan just to enjoy this hotel a while longer as we were only there for 2 nights and it isn't enough to enjoy this enchanting hotel & city.

The hotel was built around a 112 years ago and was the place where King Fouad & King Farouq stayed while in Aswan and it's indeed one regal place. It's a place you'd go to, to be absolutely isolated and spoiled in the at most luxury.

The landscaping of the hotel fades gradually into the beautiful natural landscape of the Nile in Aswan with the rocky hills covered in ancient ruins behind and the old sail boats in the water moving about. We were blessed to be able to watch the sunrises above that scene from our suite's balcony.
For breakfast the hotel serves a set menu of breakfast basic staples of cheeses fruit, cold cuts, and a bread basket with your hot and cold drink choice. You can also add to that from their big menu.

The hotel itself in terms of exterior and interior design is very colonial looking with parts of the public areas within the hotel having an African hunt lodge kind of feel with a very old world charm luxurious look.
Our room was in the new extension added to the hotel which isn't that new really as it was added in the 60's. The design of this extension was recently done to have a very modern luxurious look and that is where our room was situated. We had a luxury suit with a Nile river view and that's what I recommend. The amenities of the rooms are impeccable and the staff are so friendly and helpful, we got a nice welcoming drink on arrival and lots of tips from the staff + we got an upgrade from a regular room to a suite upon arrival! My understanding is that the rooms in the older building of the hotel- the main building- are done in an old world charm luxury sort of way but I didn't get to go into any of the rooms or suites within the old building.

I seriously can't wait until my next stay at Sofitel Old Cataract.and next time I'm bringing more people along!
